Keep your brain sharp by surfing the web! Researchers have found that searching the internet may help middle-aged and older adults keep their memories sharp! A recent UCLA study revealed that internet-savvy subjects had higher levels of brain activity when undertaking a web search compared to those subjects with no web experience. This suggests that internet searches may be an activity that keeps the brain engaged – preserving brain health and thinking ability.
Australian Web Hosting
One of the more frequent questions we are asked is “What is Hosting?” and “Who does it?”.
You can find the answer to the first question here, and as for the second – It just so happens that we have started compiling a list of Australian (and US) hosting providers to help you out when researching where to host your bits and bytes.
Its a work-in-progress, with providers including (but not limited to):
The complete list with entry level business plans and prices can be found on our new Web Hosting page.
Product Planner
Product Planner helps you learn from existing product flows to create and share your own flows.
Geek Speak
Came up with the idea to put together a list of the most frequently used “web” terms to help when explaining web design/development to clients, friends and family. Its a work in progress so if you have any suggestions or feedback let me know.
Web Design Inspiration
If you are looking for some inspiration for your next web design project – look no further.
finding simple re-design
Decided to give Finding Simple a re-design today. While the previous layout and styling was “Simple” “Effective” and “Functional” I found that it was a little too simple and really wasn’t all that attractive or professional.
The new layout (which you can see at the moment) is quite a bit cleaner and has a much more professional look. It’s not quite finished yet so bare with me as I make a few more tweaks over the next few days. And as always, feedback and recommendations are welcome.
Ailin Teo Dental Surgery
Wishing Ailin Teo best of luck with her new Dental Surgery in Geelong. I believe the doors will be opening in the next few weeks.
Check your website for spelling errors
Spelling mistakes make a website and the organisation look unprofessional, and can cause search rankings to suffer. Spellr.us is a great new web app that automatically spell checks websites and provides ongoing spell check monitoring. Developed by an Australian company, Melon Media, and officially launched at TechCrunch 50 last week, Spellr.us has been generating quite a bit of buzz.
We first heard about spellr.us in Australian Anthill and have just tried it out on findingsimple.com and doggo.com.au. We’re pleased to say that there weren’t too many errors but there were a couple that had slipped through (which we’ve now quickly corrected!). Spellr.us is expected to go live next month, in the meantime you can get free access to the beta version by registering on their website.
Bentley Photographics
I’ve had the pleasure over the last few months to work with and develop a site for Ron Bentley – a fantastic landscape photographer I met through family. He has worked closely with some the greats in landscape photography including the legendary Ansel Adams which is reflected in Ron’s love of Black & White Photography.
I highly recommend that you check out his site – Bentley Photographics. Prints are very reasonably priced at $285 which includes matting, mounting, packaging and postage within Australia.
